In Niue: Day Eight
Tuesday 5 July, 2016
Day eight on “The Rock” really solidified how fast time has flown since we arrived on the Island. Our days are starting to blur into one, with everyone putting in 110% to get the kitchen finished and the materials collected for the Pot Luck event that will be held on Thursday. Sima and Charlotte spent their morning meeting with some of the people we have established networks with, while the rest of us were out foraging for wood and leaves for the the umu.
The afternoon saw us all congregate together at the High School, where we did a presentation to the students about how awesome UC is, followed by Kent's talk on the increasing risk of the Niue people having diabetes as a result of eating sugary imported foods.
Once back at Edukai headquarters (The Backpackers) we presented Kent with his birthday cake and then there was a quick turn around, before heading out for dinner with Niue’s Chamber of Commerce members. We were treated to a buffet of traditional foods and some not so traditional foods, followed by a traditional dance performance by some of the local children, where Kent was sung Happy Birthday for the 4th time that day.
