About the UC Centre for Entrepreneurship (UCE)
Located in Room 125 on level 1 of the Forestry Building, on the beautiful grounds of the University of Canterbury (UC) campus, the UC Centre of Entrepreneurship (UCE) provides a dedicated, student-focussed space where ideas and innovation can flourish, stimulating the development of entrepreneurs through a combination of research, teaching and community engagement.
An exciting new venture for the University with innovation at its core, UCE will build the entrepreneurial capability of staff, students and the wider community on a foundation of research strength, cementing its position as a driving force in New Zealand’s entrepreneurial eco-system.
Opening eyes and minds to a world of new ideas and possibilities through entrepreneurial discovery and experimentation, UCE will play a vital role in delivering highly valued and versatile graduates who can meet the market with courage, determination and resourcefulness.
UCE offers world-class facilities, academic courses and extra-curricular initiatives that focus on the business of entrepreneurship. By offering a richly diverse range of activities that include coordination of all UC existing and future entrepreneurial initiatives (Summer Startup and the Incubator Programme), engaged research and capacity building teaching, UCE will enable students to develop the skills and attributes they need to survive and succeed in our ever-changing global economy.
Today’s students will be tomorrow’s leaders and we have a responsibility to ensure that we provide the perfect platform for their development so that UC can play a significant part in increasing economic growth and raising New Zealand’s GDP.
With its world-class learning environment, strong business connections and commitment to developing resilient and talented entrepreneurs, UCE aims to:
- become a student-focused centre of excellence for innovation and entrepreneurial research
- nurture the development of more employable UC graduates with exceptional entrepreneurial capability
- become a driving-force in the entrepreneurial eco-system regionally and nationally
- expand UC’s national and international entrepreneurial networks.
Opening of the Centre for Entrepreneurship
On Wednesday the 3rd of February 2016, UCE was officially opened with the installation of three Edison bulbs into an illuminated sign built and designed by UC Innovators students.
Each of the bulbs represented a different component of the Centre: Community presented by Peter Montgomery, UC presented by Dr. Rachel Wright, and students presented by Taylor Howatson.
Photos from the evening are also available on the UCE Facebook.
